Trip Advisor Reviews
Should have gone to Cape Verde, but due to the Ash Cloud it was cancelled. We knew Hope Cove but had not stayed the Sunbay Hotel before, and thro the internet had a last minute 4 day stay at the Sunbay Hotel.
Our room had a fantastic sea view, and the hotel location was a 100 metres from the sea. The food was exceptional, and we also attended the Chinese banquet evening and again the food was excellent. All the staff were very friendly, and the hotel was very homely. It was also a big bonus to have free Wifi. RogBurtonTrent
Staying in hope cove couldn't get better unless you stay at the sun bay hotel! The owners are so friendly and funny, you'll feel at home day in and day out! The food is absolutely delightful, I recommend that you try all of the puddings! Very recommended hotel, I keep going back every summer now! Be sure to not miss out the hope cove weekend at the end of august every year, a full weekend of fun and games for the whole family so make sure you book your stay at the sun bay before it's full up! The Sun Bay has a wonderful location overlooking Inner Hope Cove. There aren't many places where you are able to see the sea from your bed! We were made very welcome by our hosts, dined royally and left feeling totally relaxed, re-charged and wishing to return as soon as possible! The bedroom was spotlessly clean, freshly decorated and had an en-suite bathroom which bettered many we have seen in much more expensive establishments. The fact that our surrogate child (springer spaniel!) was made equally welcome was the icing on the cake. We will certainly be returning and would recommend both the Sun Bay and Hope Cove to anyone wanting to get off the hamster wheel for a few days. RugbyCliff58
We took advantage of a 3 day package at the end of May to stay at this lovely hotel. Our bedroom was clean & comfortable with glorious views across the bay towards Bolt Tail. The evening meals were outstanding with a wide ranging choice of locally sourced food. There are superb walks from the hotel in all directions and charming Hope Cove to explore with its lovely beach. Michelle, Paul and their team offer a friendly welcome and relaxing atmosphere. An excellent stay! Mary012

Hotel Facilities
Sea View Terrace

Our terrace faces south and west and gets the beautiful Devon sunshine all day long. The perfect place to enjoy a cool beer, a cream tea or one of our light lunches while taking in the lovely view out to sea and over the valley towards Inner Hope. Weather permitting we often find that our guests prefer to eat on the terrace in the evening al fresco rather than eat indoors.....a sunset with a glass of good wine and our freshly caught fish is an excellent experience.
Phones

Mobile phones will not work in Hope Cove! For most people this is a blessing but for those that cannot bear to be separated from the outside world you have to resort to walking uphill to Bolt Tail until you find a signal. We do have a payphone in the Hotel to allow you to "check in" with family and friends.
Parking

We have our own car park with 14 marked bays which is free to hotel and restaurant guests.
South West Coastal Path

We are on the South West Coast path and have an arrangement with a baggage collection company for those doing the long distance walk. For those who are less athletic or just prefer a gentle stroll, we are 45 mins walk from Thurlstone sands and the famous Thurlstone Arch. In the other direction there is a short walk from the hotel up on to Bolt Tail and back through the old village of Inner Hope (about an Hour). We often see Atlantic Grey Seals from Bolt Tail but even if you dont the contrats of the rugged cliff coastline to the tranquil waters of Hope Cove is worth seeing. For those who like a bit more adventure the walk to Salcombe from Hope Cove takes about 4 hours and covers some of the best bits of the South Devon Coast. We find many of our guests do this walk and take a taxi back from Salcombe (usually about £12 with Moonraker taxis and finsh off with a well deserved cream tea on our terrace.
Family and Pet Friendly

We welcome well behaved children and pets. Pets are welcome anywhere in the hotel except the restaurant. Guests are permitted to leave pets unattended in rooms while eating but we ask not to allow them onto the beds - fresh WHITE(!!!) linen. Thoses guests who cannot trust their pets not to sneak on to the beds duing mealtimes often leave them in the car. We do have a small conservatory which allows guests to eat supper with their dog at their feet but booking is absolutely essential.
Wireless Internet Access

We have free wireless internet access throughout the ground floor of the hotel provided by walkinwifi. All that is required is a simple and quick registration process and then you are free to surf the web.
The Lounge

Our spacious lounge and bar is open light and airy, the perfect spot to enjoy a light lunch or a pint of our local ale or cider. Our draught real ale (Shingle Bay) is supplied by Quercus Breweries based in Churchstow 3 miles away and our draght Cider is supplied by Thatcherscider.
In the Autumn and Spring time we will light our log burning stove to take the chill off the evening and we find many who are content to warm their toes with a glass of wine after a good meal in our restaurant. We have a 42" television in the lounge and watch it for all of the major sporting events (especially the Rugby matches).

We understand the importance of providing good food, and offer a professional, warm and friendly service in beautiful surroundings. Our comfortable and intimate restaurant is the perfect place to enjoy an excellent meal after a long day relaxing on the beach or enjoying the Devon coastal scenery. We source fresh local produce whenever possible, including line-caught fish from the local fishermen. Our lunchtime menu offers a variety of home-made dishes including soup, sandwiches, scrumptious salads, along with a children's menu and a delicious selection of desserts. Our restaurant is open for lunch between 12pm and 3pm, and our evening service starts at 6.30pm throught til 9pm. Children are welcome.
